FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

the national computer science workshop

What is the NCSW?

The National Computer Science Workshop (NCSW) is a five-day virtual summer program that immerses Australian high school students in computer programming, helping them build and strengthen their coding skills

Who organizes the NCSW?

The NCSW is run by Aubot Academy, a company that teaches students in primary and high school up to a second-year university level of computer science knowledge, while still in school.

Who is the target audience for the NCSW?

NCSW is for students from across Australia who are interested in coding and technology.

What do students learn at NCSW?

Students focus on developing computer programming skills while also gaining insights into the latest things happening across AI, robotics, cybersecurity, space and healthcare.

What will I be doing during the program?

You will be learning the theory behind coding concepts and then solving lots of coding exercises. You will be participating in discussions about the latest in various fields of technology!

I want to learn more coding!

What if I want to learn more coding, beyond what this week at NCSW offers me?

Sign up to Aubot Academy and you can learn coding all year round!  With Python, Java and Advanced Python being taught, taking you to a 2nd-year uni level of computer science knowledge, there is plenty to learn all year round!

What if I’m already a student at Aubot Academy and I want to participate in NCSW?

It is highly recommended!  You’re very welcome to apply!  As with all students, we will tailor your NCSW curriculum around what you already know so that you are mentally challenged and stretched during NCSW.  The tech discussions and learning alongside peers around Australia make the NCSW particularly fun!

What makes Aubot Academy different from other coding courses?

Aubot Academy goes deeper into more difficult coding concepts. We teach Python, Java and Advanced Python (algorithms and data structures). This is what allows for students to gain up to a second-year university level of computer science knowledge while still in school!

applying

I've never coded before - may I still participate?

Yes! No prior coding experience is necessary to participate. If you do have a lot of coding experience, we can also accommodate you and teach you more!

Do you only take "top students"?

We welcome all students apply!  Our application process ensures we get students who are the best fit for the program!

Will you run the same program again in 2027?

2026 will be our first year running this program! After January 2026, we will reassess and figure out how we can improve it for future iterations!

What is the quickest way to lodge an application and be accepted?

The quickest way is to enrol online through this application form by 1 November 2025.  All applicants will receive their acceptances in November 2025.  Students will be invoiced for their program fee once they are selected and have accepted their place. Fees are not due until after acceptance into the program in November 2025.

After applying

I have not received any information from you about whether my application has been accepted?

You will receive a confirmation email with your application upon submission at the email address you entered.  If you do not receive their confirmation email, please check your email address and submit again, or contact us at info@aubot.com with details of your application so we can check the email address you used and modify your application form to have the correct email address.

How will I know whether I have been accepted into a program?

Acceptances to the program will go out in November. In November, you will receive an email and form asking you to print an Acceptance and Indemnity form which needs to be signed by yourself and a parent/guardian and returned to us to complete your enrolment.

What does the registration fee cover?

Payment of the $200 registration fee (includes GST) for the five-day program enables you to attend and participate in all of the activities during the NCSW. There will be no additional charges to participate fully in the program during the week.  You will be expected to provide your own lunch and snacks.

If I cancel my enrolment can I get a refund?

A refund is available minus an administration fee of $35 if you inform us at least four weeks before the event start date that you are unable to attend. A refund is not possible within four weeks of a program as organisers have committed funds by that stage for resources to provide for your attendance.

When will I get detailed information about the program and times?

You will receive detailed information (including website urls) approximately 1 day prior to the program start date.

Other questions

Why do you have separate sessions for students from SA, WA, NT, QLD vs students from ACT, NSW, VIC, TAS?

Because of Daylight savings time!  So people from WA don't have to get up too early to participate in the Workshop!
